Job Description
VEA Connect is actively seeking an experienced Senior Fiber Optic Technician to lead the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of our fiber optic networks. In this key role, you’ll ensure all fiber builds, splicing, and termination activities meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and technical accuracy.
You will lead field crews, mentor junior technicians, and play a critical part in maintaining operational excellence and network reliability. If you're a hands-on leader with deep expertise in fiber optic systems and a commitment to delivering exceptional results, we want to hear from you.
ResponsibilitiesOversee and execute the installation, splicing, termination, and testing of fiber optic cables.
Lead field crews to ensure work is completed efficiently and safely.
Mentor and train junior technicians on technical skills and safety procedures.
Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing for system validation and troubleshooting.
Ensure all work complies with project specifications, safety standards, and industry best practices.
Maintain accurate records, including fiber documentation, splicing logs, and test results.
Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to meet deadlines and resolve field issues.
Support emergency response and ongoing network maintenance activities as needed.
5+ years of experience in fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing.
Proven leadership experience in the field, including managing crews and mentoring technicians.
Strong knowledge of fiber network design, construction, and troubleshooting.
Proficiency with fiber testing equipment (OTDR, power meter, light source, etc.).
Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g. BICSI, TIA/EIA).
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
Industry & Safety certifications (OSHA, CPR/First Aid, FOA, ETA, BICSI) are a plus.
